Man suspected of burning toddler pleads guilty
NAMPA - A Nampa man who officials say burned a toddler more than a dozen times with a cigarette has pleaded guilty.

Erica Kallin, deputy prosecutor with the Canyon County Prosecutor's Office, says Mario Gonzalez changed his plea to guilty to two counts of aggravated battery on Monday. Prosecutors say Gonzalez burned his girlfriend's daughter 15 times on her toe with a cigarette.

He apparently harmed the child because he was frustrated that she wouldn't stop crying.

Authorities say Gonzalez also hit her head several times, broke both of her arms and punched her in the stomach.

The prosecutor's office says it's recommending five years in prison before he's eligible for parole with 15 years maximum. He's scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 8.
