Clearing up swine flu confusion
BOISE - Swine flu vaccination lines are slowing from the hundreds.
But one thing that isn't changing, are the questions from Treasure Valley residents like Brett Bankus.
"I'm kind of curious as to why in the beginning they said it was targeting young, healthy people," Bankus said.
Dave Fotsch, Central District Health spokesperson, tells 2 News they're trying a number of different strategies to hit different groups of people.
And that may send a confusing message.
"In addition to moving our pod operations to Saturdays, to Monday afternoons and evenings, we're also pushing more vaccines out to physicians offices," Fotsch said.
You've seen conflicting numbers, changing priority groups and multiple vaccination clinics.
So what are you supposed to believe?
Rebecca Fritz, a recent college graduate, says there might be a little too much about the Swine Flu, floating around.
"The information is out there and it's available," Fritz said. "In fact, to me it seems like we're really focusing on the swine flu vaccine."
Here's the latest information from the CDHD.
Starting Nov. 23, until Dec. 21, vaccine dispensing times are on Mondays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the old Comp USA store in Boise.
Priority groups now also include adults between 25 and 64, with chronic medical conditions.
"I think we would've done the same thing as we look back, because at the time, the guidance from the CDC was to restrict the availability of the vaccine to those truly most vulnerable," Fotsch said.
And he says the CDHD will continue to modify plans, as the virus changes.
So if you're in a priority group, get in line.
You're invited to make suggestions on future plans for vaccine distribution. If you want in on that, you can call the CDHD flu hotline between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at 208.321.2222.
