"we were in a route clearing mission so you know we were right next to IED's 24 hours a day," said Cowan.
Cowan was deployed to Iraq twice and suffered a traumatic brain injury that left him disabled.
He came back to the treasure valley and tried to work at his old job to bring in money for his wife and five children.
His short term memory loss made it hard to work.
"When i came back i was supposed to be delivering stuff to construction projects and i would get lost, I'd forget everything," said Cowan.
He eventually lost his job and his income. That's when Glenn O'dell stepped in.
He helped Cowan get in touch with the VA program and gave him a way to help his fellow service men.
O'dell is the brains behind the veterans thrift store operation.
"If my dreams come to fruition i would like to have a store in all the major cities in Idaho," said O'dell
All the proceeds go to help local veterans and their families.
If Glenn in the brains Robert Gillespie is the braun.
"I have a little wood working experience so I'm doing the cash register stands and a little bit of the framing," said Gillespie.
Veterans working side by side to turn this old hair salon into a thrift store, and the donations are already coming in.
Once the sawdust settles it will be place for veterans by veterans.
