Edwards Drops Into Utah For Fundraiser, Pitches Health Proposal
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate John
Edwards isn't fooling himself about winning a general election in
solidly Republican Utah.
He acknowledges that Utah has been a tough place for a
Democratic presidential candidate in the past.
Edwards is in Salt Lake City tonight for a $500-a-plate
fundraiser downtown. He's expected to pull in about 100-thousand
dollars.
The former North Carolina senator said this evening that Utah
will play a role in selecting the Democratic presidential nominee
for the November 2008 election.
Utah is among 15 states -- led by delegate-rich New York,
California and New Jersey -- that have moved their primaries to
February 5th. At least five other states, including Illinois and
Texas, are close to making the shift.
Several other Republican presidential candidates have visited
Utah in recent weeks, including John McCain, Mitt Romney and Rudy
Guiliani.
