BURLEY, Idaho (AP) — An Oregon man survived a plane crash in the Cottrell Mountains east of Albion and then was rescued by farmers who came to his aid in a tractor.
The Twin Falls Times-News reports that pilot Thaddeus Bryce Fickel of Hermiston, Ore., crashed after his plane encountered turbulence at about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Fickel was flying a single-engined Cessna registered to a Washington State aircraft services company.
Two farmers drove a tractor to the top of the ridge and brought the 44-year-old Fickel down the mountain at about 10:30 p.m. He was cold but unharmed.
Fickel guided the rescuers to his location using the lighted screen of his laptop computer.
