AMBOY, Wash. – A human skull has been found at a well-known travel-trailer site in Clark County.
The skull was found Saturday, Jan. 2, at the Lake Merwin Camper's Hideaway Campgrounds in Amboy. However, Clark County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Steve Shea reports investigators "do not believe foul play was involved [n]or that it's a homicide case."
The most likely cause would be a drowning out of Lake Merwin or a hiker who slipped along its rocky shore.
Sergeant Shea said it appears the skull has been there for "an extended period of time." He said investigators from the Sheriff's Office will return to the Amboy campground this week to thoroughly search for any additional bones.
The call came into Clark County 9-1-1 Dispatch at 10 a.m. Saturday from a resident at the campgrounds. Lake Merwin Campers Hideaway is a 588-acre member-owned camping ground with an interesting mix of travel trailers built into outdoor rooms to allow for lower real-estate taxes in a resort-like setting.
The private campground also leases space to people who own recreational vehicles and campers. It includes moorage for up to 56 boats and watercraft and a small private beach for swimming.
