CODY, Wyo. (AP) _ Fire managers say they have gained 15 percent containment of the Columbine Fire.
However, Fire Management Officer Clint Dawson notes that over the weekend, it became evident that conditions are drying out and fire activity is returning to the Columbine Fire.
Fire officials caution that activity will increase as temperatures heat up or strong winds occur. Dawson stressed that until wet, fall weather arrives, the fire will continue to burn.
Active burning and smoke coming from the fire has increased in recent days.
Most of the activity was in Yellowstone National Park and south of Middle Creek.
Fire information officer Marty Sharp noted that while area closures on the Shoshone National forest were lifted, the possibility remains that if the fire grows to the east in Cabin Creek and Canfield Creek, an area closure could be reinstated.
The Rex Hale Campground is being used as a base camp for firefighters and is closed to the public.
