Education cuts divide Idahoans in new poll

Education cuts divide Idahoans in new poll
BOISE - Don Moloney is one of 625 Idahoans randomly selected to give their opinions in a new poll.

KBOI-TV 2News and The Idaho Statesman partnered to gauge the political climate the weekend before the primaries.

"I don't think that cutting education is doing anything but harming the entire future of the state," he said.

Sunday's results in The Statesman focused on education - Whether people agreed with the legislature's decision to cut K-12 education in the 2010 session.

"I think people with good judgment feel we should not cut education because all you're doing is limiting the future of the kids of Idaho," he said.

Forty-six percent of poll respondents sided with Moloney. 38 percent said they approve of the cuts.

KBOI-TV spoke to more than a dozen people and couldn't find anyone who supported the cuts Sunday in Boise . When asked about future cuts more Idahoans were on board with the cuts, if they were required to balance the budget.

However the larger group was still against the cuts. Neither side had a majority in either question.

KBOI-TV also asked about sales tax exceptions. Almost a quarter said there are too many and that they think the "loopholes" should be closed so the state can make more revenue. Most said the number of exemptions is fine now.
