Judge: Sheriff's office was right to deny CNN Bergdahl docs
BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - A district judge has ruled that the Blaine County Sheriff's Office made the right decision when it denied broadcaster CNN access to a police record regarding the Bergdahl family.

CNN had filed a lawsuit against the county after it refused to release a 15-year-old report concerning the family.

CNN had previously requested access to other law enforcement reports, 911 calls, and logs of responses to the Bergdahl residence since 1986, but the county believed this one particular record was exempt from Idaho Public Records law.

Earlier this month, Judge Robert Elgee agreed to view the record in question himself and decide if it should be made public.

Tuesday, Elgee ruled that the report in question would constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy and was therefore exempt from being released.

“We are extremely pleased that the Judge has made the legal decision to uphold the privacy protection awarded to Blaine County citizens,” said Blaine County Sheriff Gene Ramsey in a press release.
