BOISE, Idaho (BOISE) - Starting at the end of this summer and into early fall, the Ada County Highway District says it's repaving Bogus Basin Road.
ACHD reports there have been five fatalities on Bogus Basin Road since 1997, two within the past year. The plan is to re-pave the road up until mile marker 9.
ACHD points out the paving project isn't a quick fix to find dangerous spots on the road.
"The most recent fatality, we're still waiting for the complete report from authorities as to what they think went wrong there," said Craig Quintana, ACHD spokesman. "Until the report is done it would be silly for us to go out there to try to fix problems we're guessing at."
ACHD says that as it receives more funding in the next few years, workers will improve the rest of the road all the way to the top, even though that part is actually in Boise County.
"The folks from Boise County side ironically have to come down [to Boise] to get back up there if they're going to be using the road to get to Bogus Basin Ski Resort. So for all intents and purposes it's our folks using the road," Quintana said.
The project is estimated to cost $2.8 million. ACHD plans on working the project in two phases starting this year and finishing it up next summer.
