Gift card weapon thief nabbed by officers, Boise Police says

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - A 34-year-old Boise man has been arrested for stealing numerous weapons over several years at local sporting good stores, officials say.
BPD says officers took into custody Daniel Hermosillo Tuesday afternoon at a local retail store while he was leaving with a gun.
Detectives say since 2009 Hermosillo would on occasion steal weapons from the sporting good stores and then later return them in exchange for gift cards. He then allegedly used those gift cards to purchase weapons.
Police said the case was difficult to investigate.
"The suspect would steal from numerous retail stores and committed these thefts intermittently over the last few years making this a challenging investigation," said Curt Crum, Boise Police Retail Crimes supervisor.
"It takes cooperation between retailers and law enforcement to make a real impact on this kind of crime, saving consumers money in the long run."
Hermosillo has been booked on grand theft and burglary charges - both felonies.
