BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - The weather is beginning to warm up and by Saturday it could get up into the 80's.

While temperatures like that makes people want to get outside, it may not be the best time to hit some of the rivers and lakes. Because a lot of the water is still snow melt it's keeping the water temperatures cool. On Thursday the Boise River was only at 50 degrees. Fire fighters say at that temperature hypothermia can start in as little as five minutes.

Cold shock is also an issue that can be seen in some deeper water like lakes. That's when the body goes from such warm temps to cold water temps that it begins to shutdown. First responders say your mussels can tighten up and it can become much harder to breath sometimes causing people to pass out.
