Boise prepares to ring in New Year's with giant spud

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - Preparations are underway for Boise's first Potato Drop. On New Year's Eve the 17-foot spud will slowly descend with a 60 second countdown to 2014. The event will take place at the Grove Plaza in downtown Boise. The potato will be dropped from a crane in front of the US Bank building.

The fun begins at 7:30 p.m. with numerous musical acts, a magic show and even fire dancers. Then at 11:59 p.m., the countdown to midnight will begin. Once the clock strikes 12 and the spud has come down, confetti will be released along with a light show and more live music.

The event is free. For more details, click here to visit the Potato Drop's website.
