Sheriff's office identifies man suspected of shooting two deputies
CALDWELL, Idaho (KBOI) – The Canyon County Sheriff's Office has identified the man who's suspected of shooting two deputies in a shooting late Tuesday night.
Officials say Canyon County sheriff deputies were attempting to locate a suspect in the 24000 block of Sheryl Lane, west of Caldwell at about 11 p.m. Tuesday. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Kyle Allen Batt, was wanted in connection to an earlier crime that had occurred in Caldwell.
When deputies arrived to contact Batt, police say, he fired multiple shots at deputies.
Two deputies were wounded and one deputy was able to return fire at Batt, who ran away from officers.
After a search of the area, Batt was located by SWAT members at about 2:45 a.m. hiding in a nearby garage. When confronted, police say he shot himself, and was transported to an area hospital. He's currently listed in critical condition. | Photos From the Scene
Both deputies are six-year veterans of the sheriff’s office. One of the deputies was treated and released with minor injuries - the other is in serious condition.
"We are honored and moved by the incredible support by our fellow officers in law enforcement not just in Canyon County but outside our juristiction who responded last night to aide these officers who were in a critical situation," officials said in a news conference with Treasure Valley media.
Nampa PD will be the lead agency.
