Firefighters rescue man who fell into 10-foot utility hole

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- Crews rescued a man who fell into a utility hole and couldn't get out late Tuesday night.

Ada County Dispatchers said the call came in around 11:20 p.m. It happened near the intersection of Overland Road and Hervey Street in Boise. Boise Police, Fire and Paramedics were called to the scene.

Boise Fire Battalion Chief, John Peugh, said the manhole was used for road work earlier that day, it was about 10 feet deep and left uncovered. Firefighters said a man was walking down the street, fell into the hole, and was not able to get out.

Firefighters lowered a ladder into the utility hole and the man was able to climb out. He was taken to a hospital to be evaluated. Fire crews say it did not look like he had major injuries.
