Ada County Sheriff's deputies are investigating an incident involving a pedestrian hit by a vehicle in South Boise Thursday morning.

The incident happened at 7:05 a.m. Thursday on Lake Hazel Rd between South Muirwood Avenue and South Cheshire Avenue. A 59-year-old male walking west next to the eastbound lane of travel was hit by a 2005 Chrysler 300. The 24-year-old female driver, of Kuna, had one passenger in the vehicle.

The 59-year-old received injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. He was transported to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center where he is being treated for the injuries. The driver of the Chrysler and her passenger were not injured.

Evidence at the scene as well as statements from witnesses and those involved indicate the man was walking on the paved portion of the road near the south edge of the driving lane. This section of Lake Hazel does have sidewalks on both sides of the road.

Investigators say it was raining at the time of the collision. The road was wet and there were no street lights on in the area which decreased visibility.

There is no evidence or information to suggest the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of any alcoholic beverages, illegal or prescription drugs.

State law requires a pedestrian to use a sidewalk when available. Deputies continue to investigate why the 59-year-old was walking on the road rather than on the sidewalk.

No citations have been issued because the incident remains under investigation.
