SPANAWAY, Wash. -- When Chanel the dog disappeared in a stolen car several weeks ago, the pup's owners worried they might never see the 2-year-old Chi/Yorkie mix again, but the dog is home now after a good citizen saw our Problem Solvers report.

"I have my dog back. And that's what I wanted. That's the most important," said April Doidge.

The Doidge family was reunited with Chanel after a Tacoma man's friend saw KOMO's original story of the family's ordeal after their car was stolen about two weeks ago while Doidge ducked into a pharmacy, leaving the dog inside with the window cracked.

Until Chanel turned up this past weekend, Doidge feared the worst.

"I just know what some people can do to animals and I just didn't want anything like that happening to her. And that was the hardest part," she said.

The happy reunion came after the Tacoma man called Doidge to say he was sure he had Chanel. He explained that a stranger offered him the dog, claiming his grandmother could no longer care for it. The man says the stranger's whereabouts are unknown and he provided a phone number that does not seem valid.

Doidge picked up Chanel over the weekend and said the Tacoma man took great care of her. But who is the stranger who first had the dog?

"I'm a little curious. I'm a lot annoyed, just because I would like to know how he got the dog?" Doidge said. "That's a good question. How did he get my dog. Was he in my car?"

Police took fingerprints off the family's Honda Civic in hopes of identifying a suspect.

While Doidge hopes those responsible for the car theft get caught, she and her family are just focusing on how happy they are to have Chanel back.

"She's doing great. Excited, playful. No injuries," she said. "We feel so lucky."
