BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- The Ada County Sheriff's Office says a 17-year-old boy has admitted to crashing into four mailboxes with his SUV and then fleeing the scene.

Deputies say the crash occurred last Wednesday afternoon in the 7600 block of North Waterlilly Avenue.

The sheriff's office says witnesses told them a maroon Chevrolet Suburban drover over the sidewalk and crashed into a post with four mailboxes attached to it, then drove off.

Deputies say that after they posted the pictures and story to social media asking for the public's help, the teen left a note on a house near the crash scene with his information and an apology.

Officials say the teen told them he was driving about 30 mph when he lost control of the SUV and crashed, then drove off because he was scared.

Deputies say they cited him for misdemeanor leaving the scene of an accident. The damage is estimated at about $280.
