EAGLE, Idaho (KBOI) -- Officials at Eagle Island State Park have closed its popular swimming area after reports of people getting sick.
Jennifer Okerlund, Idaho Parks and Recreation communications manager, said the Department of Environmental Quality is testing water samples.
Okerlund said officials don't have a firm number of cases, but said most people have reported stomach and intestinal symptoms including diarrhea.
The DEQ tested the water last week, which turned out fine, so officials aren't yet sure why there are reports of illness.
“The health and safety of our visitors is our top priority, said Director Nancy Merrill. “We’re all concerned over the reports of illness and want to do what we can to be proactive in protecting our guests.”
The waterslide, picnic areas, disc golf and equestrian areas will remain open.
