COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho State Police say a wrong-way driver and her passenger died Sunday morning when their vehicle struck oncoming traffic on Interstate 90 in northern Idaho.

Police say 32-year-old Melissa A. Connors of Osburn was driving west in the eastbound lanes in a 1999 Hyundai Accent when the collision occurred at about 2 a.m.

Connors and 38-year-old Shannon D. Wheeler of Silverton died at the scene. Neither was wearing seatbelts.

Police say the three occupants of a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe were taken to Kootenai Health in Coeur d'Alene.

Police are continuing to investigate.
