NAMPA, Idaho (KBOI) -- Senior Chief Petty Officer Juan Cabrera of the U.S. Navy surprised his daughter Tuesday at Nampa High School's annual Veterans Day ceremony.
His daughter, freshman Mya Cabrera, said she had no idea he was home.
"I usually walk around with a lot of confidence, but obviously when it comes to my kids [it's different]," said Chief Cabrera. "It will be an interesting reaction, I don't know if I'm totally totally prepared for it."
While Mya read a poem about her dad aloud at the assembly, Chief Cabrera, waited anxiously in a back room. She finished with, "dear dad you are the pride of my life; you are the pride of this country. I miss you." And with some gasps from the crowd and Mya herself, her dad walked out.

"My first school dance, homecoming; my first day of high school," Mya Cabrera said. "Just a lot of things that people who don't have their parents deployed don't see the importance of."
The family wasn't sure what they were going to do first when they got home, but said they were all just excited to spend time with their dad.
"I care a lot, a lot, a lot about my dad and it means a lot to have him home," Mya Cabrera said.
