BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - Highway 55 has been closed north of Banks in both directions because of a mudslide that has covered the highway with debris.

The Idaho Transportation Department says that the road is closed between Garden Valley Road and Smith's Ferry Drive. The rain, combined with a hillside area that had been burned in a fire, washed soil onto the highway.

ITD says it's unclear when the highway will be re-opened.

The mudslide was in the area of the recent Zimmer Creek Fire, ITD says.
