Don't be 'shocked' when you get that next power bill
BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - You've been warned.

Idaho Power customers can expect a 7.1 percent rate increase come June, which adds up to about $6 extra per month - depending on usage.

If you're paying $83 a month right now, expect to pay $89.

Idaho Power says multiple factors have led to the cost hike including paying more for utility sources such as wind and solar. Some of the money would go toward a nearly $400 million power plant near Payette.

"Idaho's grown so much that we probably need it," said Diana Decicco, an Idaho Power customer. "So, if that's what we have to do, that's what we have to do."

But, of course, not too many people enjoy paying more for electricity.

"I'm not too thrilled about it," said Darin Swal, another Idaho Power customer. "I don't like paying higher rates that's for sure, nobody does."

The new rates go into effect June 1.
