No pot, weed, bud, marijuana in Idaho, senate panel says

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - State Sen. Chuck Winder has a simple message for states that have relaxed laws on the use of marijuana: Not here in Idaho.
The Senate State Affairs Committee voted unanimously Friday to introduce and hold a hearing on a resolution pitched by the Boise Republican opposing marijuana use in any form.
The measure also urges President Barack Obama and the U.S. Department of Justice to enforce existing federal laws tied to moving drugs across state lines.
"It's kind of like the immigration issue," Winder said. "If (the federal government is) not enforcing the immigration issue, then it's left to the states to do it. All we're saying is, (marijuana) is causing problems to the cities and jurisdictions, so please enforce federal law as it comes to transportation of illegal drugs."
Last fall, voters in Washington state approved an initiative allowing adults over 21 to have up to an ounce of pot. Colorado voters approved a similar initiative in November.
Washington is expected to begin issuing licenses to marijuana growers, processors and retail stores, and the state's Liquor Control Board is developing rules for the fledgling marijuana industry. Sales in Washington are set to begin late this year.
Washington Gov. Jay Inslee and Attorney General Bob Ferguson met with U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder last month, but were given no guidance on how the federal government will respond to plans in Washington and Colorado to set up legal markets for marijuana.
Winder said law enforcement officials along Idaho's western border are already dealing with drug trafficking due to the legalization of marijuana for medical use in Oregon, or with Idahoans crossing the border to obtain medical marijuana cards in Oregon or Montana.
Winder says he hopes the federal government takes steps to oppose Washington's law and to help states battle illegal trafficking of the drug.
The resolution comes after former Moscow Republican Rep. Tom Trail proposed legalizing marijuana for seriously or terminally ill patients. Trail introduced legislation in 2012 and 2011, but both times his bill failed to gain support.
I spoke at the Idaho State House before the committee looking to ban Cannabis permanently from Idaho.
Just like I thought, they passed the resolution. I believe they had their minds made up before this dog and pony show they called a public hearing.I spoke my truth clearly and concisely. I told them that no government of the people, by the people, for the people would act on fabrications and lies unless forced to do so by dictatorial governments. I told them that as they would not defend me against the abuses of government, that I will need to defend myself and that I will be doing so at my upcoming trail for cannabis possession.
My greatest heroes have always been those that stood up to authority and the status quo. My heroes aren't always the winners, in fact many lost everything they had, including their very lives, fighting in the good fight, for what they believed to be true. But if by any action, great or small, I can emulate those that paved the path before me, who've shown me the way to change and truth, my life will then be fulfilled and I will be content at last, no matter what the consequences.
I am willing to lay down my wealth, my freedoms and my very life for what I believe in. What I believe is that "you" should have the choice to make up your own mind about what you will do, how you will live or what you choose to consume, and that No government, how ever powerful, has the right to tell me or you, how to live our lives. No government has the right to tell me what I can believe, how I may act, or what I may consume. Those rights are Inalienable!
I do this not for myself alone, in fact, if it was just about me, I would take my lumps, face my fate and be done with it. But this isn't just about me. It isn't just about cannabis. It is about freedom to choose and about how free we are, if anything we do, can be banned by those powers that are suppose to be beholden to the 'will' of We the People.
I am going to run for Governor of my home State of Idaho, although if convicted of this pot charge I am facing, I may have to run that campaign from inside a jail cell. But I am going to run. Not for my interests, but for yours. It will not be my campaign, it will be yours. I will act as a leader, but only to fallow the will of those that will ask me to lead. This I pledge with all that I am, before you and God.
Although I fear and loath my government, I love and adore the truth. The truth is Cannabis cures, it heals, it makes me happy and I will use it until the day I die, regardless if you or government disapproves. It is my life. I will live it as I see fit. Congressional laws be damned!!!Â
David Benjamin HallÂ
Former Candidate for Boise City Mayor 2010
Future Candidate for Governor of the State of Idaho 2014
@Benj HallÂ
That is the way they do things here. Just like there education reform. Even after the entire populace spoke on the propositions they turned around and shoved it down our throats. Ideology is running rampant in that building.Â
@Benj Hall AND I will vote for you if we are still here.  We need common sense in government and clearly we do not have it.  We have fearmongers and good ol' boys trying to do whatever pleases them.  So sad...
For most medical marijuana patients, cannabis alleviates pain, relaxes the body, increases appetite, heightens all the senses, and can cause euphoria, or a least a feeling of well-being and comfort. It is easy to see why patients around the country, including in Colorado, praise this plant. So atleast for the marijuana patients there should be some some legalization of Marijuana.

Senator Winder is right and the bill should be passed. To support marijuana use in any form except a very narrow medical application, you must be (A) Brain Dead, (B) Addicted or (C) a typical low information individual. If you need pain medications that bad, there are other drugs to provide relief under medical supervision. If your condition is that bad and you work, you have become a liability and should find a way to leave work until cured or get on to pain management with something safer. There are over 400 chemicals in a marijuana smoke affecting all parts of the body and brain. It should never be allowed in any workplace, public area or on roadways and never accessible to the youth of our country. Cigarettes are a 20:1 certainty of being a carcinogen, do you want to add more by hooking more via smoking a product with more health hazards. Medicinal marijuana and all its 400-plus chemical cocktail elements is a totally bad actor and should never be allowed in the workplace even if legal in that State. The particulate phase (tar) constituents of marijuana and tobacco smoke are also generally similar, with the major exception that marijuana contains tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and scores of other llIC-like (cannabinoid) compounds not found in tobacco, while tobacco tar contains nicotine not found in marijuana. With regard to the carcinogenic potential of marijuana, it is noteworthy that the tar phase of marijuana smoke contains many of the same carcinogenic compounds contained in tobacco smoke, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, such as benz[a]pyrene, which was recently identified as a key factor promoting human lung cancer... Preliminary findings suggest that marijuana smoke activates cytochrome P4501A1, the enzyme that converts polycyclic hydrocarbons, such as benz[a]pyrene, into active carcinogens."
It is simply stupid for you folks to want to harm the population at large with "recreational" mind-bending, mellowing junk like this chemical cocktail, marijuana. THERE IS NO UP-SIDE TO ITS USE across the board. If you want to go out to the backcountry and get stoned after parking or stay inside your home, fine. The rest of us and the kids don't need a needlessly more hazardous environment.
Bravo for Idaho legislators.
@Ernie H : And this is because you said so , Right ? I don't agree with the legalization of it for personal use, but I aam not going to pretend as you do that you know the benefits of it as medicinal or that because the same good ole boys who force feed us policy say it what is good for us. They continue to push that we need to privatize everything and get rid of all entitlements when this state is one of the largest federal tax dollar gluttons in the USA. Lead by example Idaho. Â
@Ernie H Nice propaganda. I could refute almost every statement you made to the point of making you look foolish, but that is not the point of intelligent dialog.
I would however point out, that starting or ending an argument with insults is demeaning to us both. You for your assumptions of character, and me for having to illuminate you to that knowledge in my reply.
The state of Idaho takes a hard stance against pot... but routinely takes a light stance on drunk driving (reckless endangerment) among its politicians.
@Visitor Zero : That is a fact !
So from what I gathered, Senator Winder introduced this bill by giving background to why he was introducing it. He said that the Association of Idaho Cities (idahocities.org) came to him and asked him to introduce RS21862. He then continued to explain that this was due to the "...issues going on around the states of Washington, Oregon, and Colorado regarding the legalization of marijuana." and said that the "Association of Idaho Cities wanted to make a statement...". He said that this isn't a change to the law, but just a statement. However, this 'statement' would serve as a way to prevent legalization of marijuana for ANY purpose; As many of you have already pointed out. This is outrageous! There are plenty of studies that show that marijuana has a plethora of medicinal qualities, and to have it blocked like this for no reason? Makes no sense to me. Even if marijuana wasn't legalized for medicinal or recreational use, this bill would deny the industrial aspects! Hemp can be used to make over 2,500 different products! And probably more! All ranging from cellophane to dynamite. To make this illegal forever, is so stupid. So looking further into this issue, it was discovered that in Senator Winder's donor list had: Miscellaneous Agriculture $2000, Insurance $2000, Tobacco Companies & Tobacco Product Sales $1250, Beer, Wine & Liquors $1600, Farm Bureau $1000, Forestry and Forest Products $850, and Pharmaceuticals and Health Products $500.
Â
Specifically these were the top donors that provide conflict of interest in order: JR Simplot Co $2000, Blue Cross of Idaho $1500, Idaho Farm Bureau $1000, Idaho Forest Group $850, Idaho Beer and Wine Distributors $500, Idaho Distributing Co $500, PHRMA $500, Monsanto $500, and Anheuser-Busch $400.
Â
It seems easy to see now why Winder would be willing to put this bill into effect. I will also be looking closer into who makes up the Association of Idaho Cities. I have a feeling they have similar interests in mind. This is outrageous that businesses are telling us how we should live. I am fed up with it, and hope that this will create cognitive dissonance within you. Please research this and find out for yourself what is going on, and also why it is outrageous that marijuana has such a bad rep. Use Google Scholar to look up books and articles from reputable sources to help you build your argument.
This story is NOT accurate. We have a volunteer that recorded this hearing. This piece makes it sound like they all put it to committee because they want to ban marijuana in Idaho forever. That simply wasn't the case. This isn't a real depiction. No one really knew what to do when this was put in front of them. It was almost taken as a joke as one Senator asked if Winder if he really expected it to get anywhere. There were a lot of people signed up to comment and it was clear that it needed more time. The RS's going before them were getting voted straight to print and to the floor. That's what would have happened and we wouldn't have ever had a chance to comment. They would have put it through without any comment at all. In this ONE instance this going to committee was a Good thing for those of us that Need medical marijuana or people advocating for Industrial use which we desperately need. Our voices need to be heard.Â
Â
Please present the story fairly and accurately if you are really on our side. I expect it.
This is the way I see it.
1. Â This is a plant. Â So it can't be made illegal.
2. Â God gave us this plant to heal ourselves.
3. Â The government is not above God.
4. Â Our Constitution claims there has to be a separation of church and state, yet this idiot has decided that he controls the church by saying spiritual groups cannot have it. Â Hmmmm.
5. Â Marijuana is mentioned in the bible and promoted by Jesus.
6. Â US Gov't CLAIMS to have a patent on a plant that God gave us to heal ourselves
7. Â The description of this patent says it is used for healing cancer, stopping pain, treating mental illnesses.
8. Â The FDA claims there is no medical advantage with this plant thus conflicting with the US Gov't patent. Â Hmmm
9. Â Again... this is a plant... the only one they are trying to keep from us. Â They have no right and no ability to do so.
10. This plant being a natural part of earth should NOT be taxed and regulated.
@Geekygranny : Well they tax the hell out of Tobacco and every one thinks they should run smokers out of any public areas in and around cities. So basically it is just business as usual.Â
I could go on and onâ¦but lucky for you I won't.  Here is one more thing to UNDERSTAND, you idiotic brain stem functioning elected idiots:  18th Amendment brought us - you know this oneâ¦. - organized crime!  And what happened after it was repealed with the 21st Amendment?  Not a whole hell of a lot!  Once the parties died down, it was life as usual, but with a new tax source for the government!  Take away the criminal element and you suddenly drop the desirability, hence the misuse.  How STUPID can Idaho be to let this opportunity go?  They will not even look at hemp seriously - and that is not even SORT of the same stuff! Oh dear God, I want off this planet LOL.  The stupid is becoming unbearable.  Can I at least get you all to agree to VOTE IN PRIMARIES next time, and get rid of ALL of these clowns at the main clown college?
Well, as a veteran/victim of sitting through senate hearings at the statehouse, I can only imagine how this one went.  First, you take your handpicked panel that will bend to your wishes (*ahem otter*) then you find your testifiers who will say the right stuff.  I am just wondering, did they show Reefer Madness before or after the dog and pony show LOL!  OMG, Idaho is a JOKE anymore.  Just a joke.  GROW UP you idiots.  Pot is a gateway drug to exactly NOTHING. Lousy parenting is a WAY bigger gateway drug!  People do not od on it.  The only damage pot does is take away your desire to push yourself while stoned.  It does take away the desire to try harder, you know, sort of like endless unemployment bennies, and food stampsâ¦..
Prohibition CREATES criminals out of otherwise law abiding citizens. Time and again this has been proven throughout the world. As it stands now it has become far to profitable for the "justice" system to arrest, imprison, and fine individuals for an offense which harms none - but that is changing - as SO many of our own citizens are jailed for these things the cost of housing them all has finally been the factor tipping the scales. It is slim hope, but hope nonetheless, that our elected officials will listen to the will of the people and see the massive economic and sociological benefits to legalizing cannabis in all it's forms - not limited to taxable income to the state in the BILLIONS as well as a boon to growth in the job and technology sectors through industrial hemp research and agriculture. Save Idaho - Free the People - LEGALIZE.Â
That's funny... Idaho is all about the rights of its citizens to homeschool and to own and carry guns... but even though a Clear Research Poll in 2010 showed that 74% of *Idahoans* polled support medical marijuana legalization in Idaho, marijuana's bad, mkay?. The War on Drugs is a total failure, and I am already making plans to relocate to a state where they defend the wishes of the citizens. WA and CO are only a start, there are several states across the nation introducing legislation to legalize marijuana at state level, and two Representatives are submitting legislation to Congress to legalize it across the country. The Old Guard can resist as much as it wants... the Prohibition of Marijuana is on it's way out (quote from Mason Tvert of SAFER).
Stupid, backwoods, ignorant neanderthals... I bet we take away their brandy, scotch and vodka and they'd change their tunes... Seriously, prohibition of marijuana needs to end...Â
The main issue here is one of the "good ol boys" doesn't have an investment in the products that hemp/marijuana produces.
For many years the legislature has governed with the mindset that they must protect us from ourselves instead of allowing us the free agency to choose.
Â
Death and destruction via alcohol with financial compensation going to the state vs stress and anxiety relief and a better and cheaper cloth than nylon plus more jobs.
Â
Gateway argument is inane...cigarettes have always been the gateway drug.
Obviously Idaho's adults, unlike those in Washington and Colorado, are far too stupid to make such choices for themselves. Thank GOODNESS we have our brilliant "representatives" to make all the hard decisions.
Â
I s'pose they'll celebrate their new resolution by throwing a cocktail party. (Raving hypocrites!)
Once again, Idaho leads the way!!!.......BACKWARD!
