Police: Idaho resident sees belt beating video on Facebook, alerts authorities

WARREN, Mich. (AP) — Police say two cousins of a 14-year-old suburban Detroit boy could face charges after a video posted online showed them beating him with belts to discipline him for stealing candy at school.

The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens and the Detroit Free Press report Warren police plan to meet with Macomb County prosecutors on charges.

Warren Police Commissioner Jere Green said Tuesday the video shows the cousins beating the child "with good-sized belts, repeatedly whipping him as he cowers and protects himself." Officials suspect the beating took place in January or February.

Police say the boy didn't have long-lasting physical injuries.

Police say the video was taken by someone using a cellphone and eventually ended up on Facebook. An Idaho resident saw the video and alerted Michigan authorities on Sunday.
