Investigation clears officer in suspect's shooting

POCTELLO, Idaho (AP) — An independent investigation found a Bannock County sheriff's deputy was justified in shooting and killing a Pocatello man who had taken another man hostage at a pet store in Chubbuck.

Blackfoot police investigated the March 14 shooting death of 30-year-old Bradley Allen Wilson at a Petco store and Ada County prosecutors announced Thursday that no charges should be filed.

Wilson's mother called Pocatello police to report her son had been threatening to harm himself. Officers found Wilson at a convenience store near Idaho State University, but he brandished two handguns and sped away in his car, eventually crashing it.

Officers say he walked into the pet store and took an 18-year-old man hostage, alternatively pointing the gun at his own head and the hostage's head.

A deputy fired one shot, killing Wilson.
