Mom who set house on fire with kids inside gets 20 years

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) – A Boise mother convicted of deliberately setting her house on fire with her three children inside has been sentenced to 20 years in jail.

Officials say Jodhe Bassett intentionally set her house on fire with her children inside the home. Investigators say the cause of the fire was determined suspicious "almost immediately."

Bassett was sentenced Wednesday in Ada County District court to 20 years in prison, but she'll have to serve three years behind bars before she's eligible for parole.

Boise Firefighters were called to the house fire on the 3900 block of S. Yorktown Way at 2:28 a.m. December 19, 2012.

Several neighbors had called 911 reporting explosions coming from the house. When officers and firefighters arrived, they found the front windows blown out and the garage door bulging in the middle. One explosion had knocked a living room wall off the foundation.

"Firefighters narrowly escaped injury as one of the explosions occurred just as the first fire crews were arriving on scene," police said in a news release. "The explosions engulfed the house in fire."

The three children were able to escape the house without getting hurt.
