NAMPA, Idaho (KBOI) - A former supervisor at the Idaho Department of Juvenile Correction in Nampa has been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison for having sexual intercourse with a then 15-year-old juvenile inmate.
The Canyon County Prosecutor's Office says 31-year-old Julie McCormick will have to serve a minimum of five years before she's eligible for parole.
"As an almost 30 year old, you engaged in sexual intercourse with a 15 year old victim," Judge Bradly Ford said at the sentencing. "At the time of the offense committed, Ms. McCormick was acting as a supervisor of juvenile offenders at a state juvenile corrections facility."
"She held a position of authority and trust; not only to the victim but also position of trust to the people of Idaho…The victim was not free to leave (the) facility and he was under her control."
McCormick, who told officials she fell in love with the teen, was also ordered to register as a sex offender, pay the victim a $5,000 civil penalty and have no contact with the victim or his immediate family, as well as any minor males.
“You brainwashed him about his past and used that to gain his trust,” the victim's mother said in court.
