MELBA, Idaho - An explosion in Canyon County has sent one man to the hospital with serious injuries.

The Canyon County Sheriff's Office says that crews responded to a report of an explosion just south of Melba Thursday morning.

When responders arrived, they found a 63-year-old with burns and other serious injuries to his head and arm.

Deputies later learned that the man works with pyrotechnics as a hobby, and they believe that an accidental ignition of those pyrotechnics caused the explosion.

The sheriff's office says a large steel shop was extensively damaged in the blast.

The man was flown to a Boise hospital. His condition is not known.
