POST FALLS, Idaho (AP) - A Post Falls man has been arrested on suspicion of beating his girlfriend to death.
The Coeur d'Alene Press reports 44-year-old Christopher Wayne Thompson was booked into the Kootenai County jail on a second-degree murder charge. He was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
Police Chief Scot Haug said Thompson told a family member that he had injured his girlfriend.
"A family member was concerned and called us," Haug said. "When we responded we found her dead in the apartment (on the floor)."
Haug said comments Thompson made to relatives led authorities to the apartment.
The victim is believed to be 40 to 50 years old. Her name hasn't been released. An autopsy was planned Tuesday.
Thompson was arrested at a relative's home without incident.
"He earlier had made comments about wanting police to kill him," Haug said. "The suspect came out of the house and gave himself up. At first, we thought we'd have more trouble than that."
Neighbors told police there had been a strained relationship between Thompson and his girlfriend, Haug said. Officers responded to an incident involving the two in June.
