BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - Idaho Republican Rep. Mark Patterson has officially submitted a letter of resignation to the state.
A spokesman for Gov. Butch Otter told KBOI 2News that Patterson faxed his resignation letter to the governor late Friday afternoon. He plans to resign Jan. 5.
The lawmaker kept the letter short.
"Dear Gov. Otter: I write to inform you of my decision to resign my seat in the Idaho House of Representatives, effective midnight, January 5, 2014."
Patterson said earlier in the week that he would resign from the Idaho Legislature after party colleagues from his Boise district urged him to quit amid revelations that he had pleaded guilty in 1974 to assault with intent to commit forcible rape.
