BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- A dog is recovering from injuries after it was attacked by a mountain lion in a west Boise neighborhood, Idaho Fish and Game says.

On Wednesday, IDFG says the homeowner, who lives near West Hill Road and North Collister Drive, heard their German shorthaired pointer yelp and run back into the house through a doggy door. The homeowner looked outside and saw the cougar crouched on the back porch.

Soon after, the mountain lion ran around the house and took off. Fish and Game responded and confirmed the attack.

"It's likely a yearling lion, on its own for the first time in its life," said Bill London, conservation officer. "Finding sufficient food can be difficult, and young lions often view domestic pets as easy meals."

The mountain lion hasn't been seen since. Fish and game is warning pet owners in the area to keep a close eye on their pets over the next several days and turn on lights when folks let their pets outside.
