Officials: Nevada trooper pulled over Amber Alert mother
CALDWELL, Idaho - The Nevada Highway Patrol said Tuesday that one of its troopers pulled over the non-custodial mother suspected of taking her three children just prior to an Amber Alert being issued.
The Nevada Highway Patrol says a trooper clocked Bertha Alicia Guerrero-Castro going 86 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone on Highway 95 near Goldfield, Nev.
Police say Guerrero-Castro didn't have a driver's license, the three children were not buckled up and there was also an adult female in the car.
The trooper cited her for speeding, not having a valid license and the children not being restrained correctly.
Nevada Highway Patrol says the trooper did not notice any suspicious behavior or anything else out of the ordinary. She told the trooper she was headed to Las Vegas. (Photos of the children >>>)
The trooper pulled Guerrero-Castro over an hour and 50 minutes before the Amber Alert was issued.
Officials say Guerrero-Castro lost custody of her three children to the State of Idaho and the children were turned over to Health and Welfare.
Bertha picked up her children for visitation and was supposed to return them on Saturday but never did. Officials say she has previous history of drug abuse and child abandonment and believe the children could be in danger.
Police are looking for Ubaldo Guerrero-Lopez Jr.,9, Mirella Guerrero-Lopez, 7, and Esmerelda Guerrero-Lopez, 5.
Officials say Bertha, 35, is driving a gray 1986 Pontiac with Nevada license plate 389XPR.
The FBI believes the missing children could be in the Phoenix area and may be headed to Mexico.
