Nuclear test facility may reopen at the Idaho National Laboratory

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho - the U.S. Department of Energy is taking feedback from the public on its plan to reopen a nuclear testing facility at INL. The agency tells the Post Register the Transient Reactor Test Facility has been idle since 1994 but has remained on standby status.

The facility uses tests to analyze radiation effects on fuel and the data collected could lead to improvements in the next generation of nuclear reactors.
