Parma mayor resigns amid misconduct accusations

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - The mayor of Parma has stepped down from his post following a recall petition.

The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that Bob Flowers stepped down Tuesday after four of the city's six council members signed the petition.

Flowers says he resigned because he could not do his job with the council and community questioning his abilities. Flowers was sworn into office in January after serving as the 2,000-person town's mayor from 1998 to 2006.

According to the recall petition, Flowers was accused of misconduct and misuse of public property. Flowers denies the accusations.

City Councilman Nathan Leigh says the council will select a new mayor at a July 14 meeting.
