Police: 5-month-old Wash. girl who died had been sexually abused

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A 5-month-old girl who was found dead at the Olympia home of a family friend last Friday had been sexually abused, according to the Olympia Police Department.

The baby was napping at an apartment in the 100 block of Seventh Avenue Southeast around 5:30 p.m. According to police, when the baby's caregiver checked on it, they found her not breathing and unresponsive.

The caregiver called 911, and the baby was taken to St. Peter's Hospital but was unable to be revived.

According to police, hospital staff believed the baby showed signs of sexual abuse, and those signs were later confirmed by the Thurston County Coroner's Office.

The cause of death has not yet been determined, and detectives are investigating the case.
