BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - Regis Salon admits procedures for destroying sensitive documents were not followed after the closing of a store at the Boise Towne Square Mall last week.

One day earlier, the Truth Squad looked into the matter after two former employees came forward with dozens of documents containing workers and customers personal information. Client Profile cards are filled out by customers who are getting a wax or coloring at one of the salons.

Not only does it ask for names, phone numbers, and addresses. It also asked for medical information including current medications people were taking.

Using the information we tracked down a customer who had been to Regis Salon several times. Kelsea Taylor of Meridian said she was shocked when we showed up, and was taken back once we showed her a picture of all the information we found just from the thrown away document.

"I didn't think that I would be getting a phone call from someone I didn't know saying oh this is your address," said Taylor.

Retired FBI agent Jeff Lanza was in Boise to talk about preventing ID theft. He told KBOI that it is illegal in many states for companies to not properly destroy or shred documents before putting them in a dumpster.

Even though Regis Salon would not answer our direct questions over the phone they did release a statement regarding the found documents.

"After closing our location at the Boise Towne Square Mall on April 25, Regis Salons’ procedure regarding the proper handling and disposal of sensitive information was not followed. Our guidelines state that documents must be returned to the company’s home office or destroyed in a manner that prevents disclosure of any personal, identifiable information."

"This was not done, and we sincerely apologize to our employees and our guests. Any salon applicant, stylist or guest who believes their information was compromised due to this incident can contact our Guest Services team at 1 (888) 456-2887."
