Idaho school board member apologizes for Obama comment
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A member of the Coeur d'Alene school board is apologizing for a comment perceived by many to be racist that he made about President Barack Obama during a legislative forum. Brent Regan made the comment Saturday during a discussion about federal gun control measures. During the forum, Regan said that no clear definition of assault rifles exists, and then shared part of a conversation he'd had with his wife: "I said, 'They can't figure out what an assault weapon is — it's just black and it looks scary.' And she looks at me and says, 'Well, so is Obama.'" Saying someone looks black is not racist, unless the person hearing it deems it as such. It is simply a statement of perception. Also, many(not all) of his policies are indeed scary. If anything, it's a spot on analogy.

Get over it. People are way too sensitive about stuff any more. I guess black ice is racist, and a black eye is also racist as they both are things that nobody likes. It's funny to me how so many things people say are racist. If a person other Then a white person had said that we wouldn't be calling him racist but since it was a white person who said it he must be called racist. Grow up people.

There will always be racism in every country, it will never go away. I am proud of our country, not only have we grown passed segregation and come so far from the days of old, be we as a country have elected a "black President" and have re-elected him for a second term. As new generations come, the number of racist people in our country decreases and cultural diversity grows. We will always have ignorant people of every race, but I love my fellow Americans and will try to teach acceptance through leading by example. Hate will not erase hate. That comment was unacceptable by a public servant.

If it truly didn't occur to him that this comment was racist, he should just stay home and keep his mouth quiet for the duration of his life.
The comment is also--obviously--not an original idea, and is most likely an example of a racist, bigoted clown parroting a racist "joke" he saw in e-mail or on the Intertube. Such a lack of judgment is reason enough for him to resign his position on the school board. If he had made the same "joke" in front of a classroom, would you all still be defending him? What if your black child were in that classroom? Shame on you all.
