Senator's bill to ban felons from public schools

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A senator from the Magic Valley is pushing legislation to keep felons out of Idaho's public schools.
The Senate Education Committee voted Tuesday to introduce a bill by Republican Sen. Lee Heider that would require school boards to deny enrollment to anyone convicted of a violent felony.
Heider acknowledges such cases are rare, but he recounted for lawmakers how two felons recently caused problems for classmates and administrators at a regional high school.
Heider believes felons are more likely to be involved in gangs, peddle drugs or be sexually active than their peers. He also says felons have other options for earning their General Equivalency Degree.
His bill would apply to pupils sentenced for a violent misdemeanor or felony or crimes that carry a year or more in prison.

Magic Valley voters are not the sharpest tools in the shed if they voted this tool into office. Â Keeping felons from gaining an education will only increase the chances that they will have to return to a life of crime in order to survive. Â This will cost the taxpayers more in the end.
Thank You Senator for doing something constructive and positive, not for something political and for an agenda..

Wasting the time on something so absurd? Â Is the great idea to do a background check on every single person who walks through the door? Â How'd this guy ever get elected. Â Beyond stupid.
Senator? Â It is not felons doing the shooting and killing in public schools, but the students, the children doing the killings !?
Explain to me what a felony is in this day and age. Are there felony traffic violations? Is it a felony to catch and keep a misidentified fish? Is it a felony to cut down the wrong tree for firewood? Just asking.
