19-year-old fakes attack to win back ex girlfriend, sheriff says

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- A 19-year-old Boise resident is accused of faking an attack with an electrical cord Tuesday evening in an attempt to win back his ex girlfriend, the Ada County Sheriff's Office said.

And now he's facing up to six months in jail for the alleged stunt.

The incident began when dispatchers received a call about a man lying on the ground off Five Mile Road near West Bigwood Drive with a cord around his neck.

Deputies arrived to find Shawn Sheltra sitting on the ground and covered in blankets, surrounded by people who saw him laying there and stopped to help. Sheltra told deputies he was walking on a path near Five Mile on his way to a treehouse when he was attacked, from behind, by two men he could hear but couldn't see.

The 19-year-old told police he was knocked unconcious and woke up on the side of the road.
At this point in the investigation, nearly 20 Ada County Sheriff deputies were working on the case. A portion of Five Mile was also closed during rush hour to search for evidence.

But it was all a hoax, the deputies say. Sheltra eventually told detectives he made the whole thing up. He's now been charged with filing a false police report.
