Spreading Out Food Stamps
BOISE, Idaho - Legislation that would spread food stamp distribution across 10 days each month has hit a roadblock. The legislation is headed back to committee for reconsideration.
People we talked with in the Treasure Valley just hope it eventually moves forward.
Grocery stores are backing the plan to spread out food stamp distribution because the first of the month can mean long lines.
"A lot of businesses feel a lot of stress, I know because I worked at a business that accepts food stamps, they go under a lot stress the first day of the month trying to keep up with whether it's going to be busy or not that day," said Taylor Thornton.
Cameron Sorensen receives food stamps and he hopes this legislation passes.
"I think it is a very good idea because it will be a lot easier for those of us who have them, and not having to deal with long lines," said Sorensen.
Sorensen says sometimes he will even grocery shop in the middle of the night so he doesn't have to fight the crowds on the first of each month. So he says he wouldn't mind waiting a few days for his stamps.
"That would be better in the long run," said Sorenson.

Less people on food stamps. There is enough people abusing the system. If only the truly needy received food stamps, there wouldn't be an overcrowding problem. Make it easy to people to whistleblow on those who are abusing the system.
We're giving them free food so they can use the rest of their money for tattoo's, alcohol and tobacco. Let them wait in line so that we know what days NOT to go to the store. I have contacted my senator and urged him to vote against. He is, but for extra costs involved to implement and run the program that way.
