Man walking across America gets goat impounded

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Washington state man on a cross-country fundraising trip for a Kenyan charity says he suffered a setback when his goat was impounded.

Steve Wescott tells KSL he had leashed his goat, LeeRoy, outside a Salt Lake City bar Wednesday while he had dinner inside.

Someone reported the goat to police, who say they turned it over to animal control to decide whether LeeRoy was safe.

Westcott says that when he left the bar, he saw an animal control officer loading LeeRoy into the back of a van, and had to pay a $50 impound fee to get the goat back.

Salt Lake County Animal Services declined comment to KSL on the specifics of the incident, but said Salt Lake City municipal code bars possessing livestock without a permit.
