NAMPA, Idaho (KBOI) - Nampa Police says a 37-year-old pedestrian was killed Sunday evening after getting struck by a van.
Officers say the crash happened at the intersection of Orchard Avenue and Horton Street around 8 p.m. Sunday. Police say a van was driving east on Orchard Avenue and hit the pedestrian who was crossing the street.
Nampa Police Sgt. Matt Pavelek said the pedestrian, identified as Ryan John Chadez by the coroner, died on scene from his injuries.
Neighbors in the area say this can be a tricky intersection.
"it is a dark corner and with the number of people and with the number of people that cross the street, we can understand how an accident could occur," Brett Eshelman said. "Plus Orchard Street is becoming more and more busy as far as automobile traffic is concerned, and they do tend to drive maybe a little fast through our neighborhood."
But Nampa police said there have not been an overwhelming amount of injury crashes at the intersection in the past. Sgt. Pavelek said there was a crash at the intersection last year, one in 2012, and two in 2011. But only one of those was an injury crash.
But this time, a Nampa man lost his life.
"We're shocked and surprised and a little dismayed," Eshelman said.
According to police, the driver of the van is also an adult male from Nampa. Sgt. Pavelek said no charges have been filed.
