Micron's Steve Appleton laid to rest
BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- Several hundred people gathered in Boise to pay their final respects to Micron's Steve Appleton who was laid to rest Thursday.
Appleton's body was taken to Dry Creek Cemetery northwest of town after a private funeral service at St. John's Cathedral in Boise attended by some 500 people.
The Micron CEO and chairman died last Friday when the experimental plane he was piloting crashed shortly after take off at the Boise airport.
Appleton, 51, was alone in the aircraft
He is survived by his wife and four children.
As a tribute to Appleton and his love of aviation, the Alpha jet he owned flew over the graveside service.
Appleton was also honored with a missing man formation, made of up his pilot friends.
Steve Appleton was appointed chairman, CEO and president of Micron in 1994.
His sudden death stunned and saddened a community to which he had contributed so much.
A public memorial service is planned for Feb. 23 at Taco Bell Arena in Boise.
