Does billboard comparing Obama to alleged shooter go too far?

CALDWELL, Idaho (KBOI) - A Caldwell billboard is raising questions in the Treasure Valley as it compares President Obama to accused Colorado killer, James Holmes.
The billboard on Franklin Road equates the actions of the president's foreign policies to the acts of Holmes, who's suspected of killing 12 people in the theater shooting.
The group that owns the board, The Ralph Smeed Foundation, says it wants to draw attention to military men and women dying overseas.
"(It's) way over the line, and I am not an Obama supporter," Lynn Davis Hathaway, said on the KBOI 2News Facebook page.
A spokesman for the group says everyone has the right to their own opinion. | Additional photos of the billboard
Ashley Helton, who also wrote on Facebook, agrees with the group.
"It's a free country, this group has a right to voice their opinion no matter what anyone thinks about it," Helton said.
President Obama recently visited the Pacific Northwest - making stops in Portland and Seattle.

Adem is Adumd. Fargon
So what should the poster say for George Bush?
Okay...truce!
You know Adem, I just finished reading the rest of you last comment. I am done writing to you. You are a bore. You throw out your knowledge to let me know how above me you think you are. How do you know anything about me? I have no need to give you a resume on who I read or my educational status.
Why did I bring up the bible... it was to illustrate interpertation, that is all,no hidden agenda.
Now, it is time to end our conversation...you are becoming verbally borderline abusive. I am a woman who does not take kindly to any abuse, so so long!
Again Adem, I didn't say you were ignorant. I said most people have no idea what the constitution really means. Obviously, you must be intelligent or you would not be studying Poli-Sci, but I must reinerate...everything is interpertation. What you read into a passage, someone else will find another view. You can give me 100 books and there will be 100 opinions.
My husband...who happens to be a Vietnam Vet says, "opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.
I don't want to argue with you I just don't want you to call me a moron because of my views and repeating my name three times is quite condenscending.
I too am a well read, educator. I am not stupid,I respect everyone's right to express themselves, but the billboard probably doesn't hurt Obama.Instead, it hurts the families and friends of the people that were wounded or died in Aurora. Maybe, we need to think beyond politics and be kinder as a whole nation to one another.
@Felice Felice than I apologize for the rude first post. I took it to some form of offense and posted irrationally. I agree with the your stance on opinions, but just because everyone has an opinion does not make it truth. For instance, In the coherence theory of truth, it many agree without inconsistencies, than it must be true. I have to disagree and promote the idea of correspondence theory of truth, which stand for it is only true if it ties to the physical real world. What makes a theory practical. For instance, if we all agree Santa will pay our bills, and we believes its true with each-other than it must be true, but in the real world if we depend on that "truth" we will be bankrupt. Same with socialism, in theory and agreements it must be true it can work, but than again the the real world time and time again it fails. But on a side note my condolences go to those families and wish for a better brighter future for America.
AdemT.. First of all the office of President does deserve our respect. You think it is easy being President? If you read my posting,I didn't say you had to agree with the President, like him or vote for him.
You people, that bask in the light of the constitution don't even really understand what half of it means or the intent the writers had. Obama is a constitutional scholar, but the constitution like the bible is still open to interpertation.
As far as him getting the Nobel Peace Prize, it was awarded to him for his work in strenghtening international diplomacy and cooperation between people and his work against nuclear weapons. They say even Obama was surprised he was chosen.
I don't appreciate you calling me a moron. It shows your lack of respect, intelligence and willingness to accept other people's views.
You seem like a VERY angry person...maybe you should work on that. I would hate to read about you shooting up a theater in Boise,or wherever you live!
@Felice Felice, please, I'm majoring in economics and american history/political science. Save your pathetic argument for someone uneducated enough to take advice from you. Maybe I can assist you and recommend you read "The Founding Fathers guide to the constitution"- Brion McClanahan. And if you can actually read, and understand that, read "BLOWBACK"- Chalmers Johnson. And maybe you can understand what all Obamas and past presidents meaningless wars and slaughtering will bring upon us. So did Hitler, Stalin, Mao, or any other "prosperous" leader deserve respect to? Please, intrigue me also how Obama uses his constitutional education on bettering this country? And why would you bring the bible into this? You dont say? He wants socialism aswell? Jon Locke opposed any form of socialism, which is what the constitution was based upon. But I'm sure a peasant like you wouldn't even know that name. I'm more of a Aristotelian, aka Libertarian. But when it comes to people like you I must agree with Platos reason for hating democracy. Democracy destroys itself with the stupidity of uneducated voters looking for a "quick" fix, disregarding the long term. Â
I used to live in Northern Idaho. Now, I am ashamed to admit that. As far as I can see Idaho has become a state filled with bigoted, obnoxious, unhappy, ignortant people. Of course not all.
Where was this billboard when Bush sent troops to Iraq? I didn't see these people comparing Bush to the killers at Columbine HS,or the 911 bombers.
I support the 1st Ammendment, but this has gone too far. President Obama deserves respect even if you don't like him, disagree with his policies or are a bigoted jerk!
If Romney gets into office,do you see him pulling us out of the war? How about giving billions more to defense and even starting a war with Iran?? Let's see if these malcontents put up a billboard comparing him to Hitler.
No one wants war and Obama wants to get us out,but we don't always know what is happening behind the scenes.
People...open your minds and shut your mouths!!
PS. STOP KILLING WOLVES!! That offends me!
@Felice Firstly... The president Obama doesn't "deserve" respect. I don't know what kind of stupid comment that is in the first place to even say. What respect did he earn? He puts his policies out there and if you disagree/or endorse it that is your choice. Respect has nothing to do with it. He is the protector of our constitution, or have you forgotten the real job of the government? The billboard was posted by a libertarian for starters, and if you look closely and wonder why former President Bush didnt get this billboard was because, geeze i'm not sure, oh yah! He never got a Nobel peace prize. Bush was crucified by the media so don't even begin to compare. Mitt Romney would do the same exact thing as all the Presidents pushing their agendas on forcing a global, bankrupting, dangerous empire. If Obama wanted to get us out, we would be out you uneducated moron, you're the one who should shut your mouth. Â
What can one expect from a population that has had too much of 'unsold' potatoes to eat. Definitely, this has got to change their thinking.
Americans stop cutting your noses to spite your face. You are not disrespecting Obama (he does not need the respect of people whom God have put below him in all things, intelligence, education, wealth, achievement), instead, you are disrespecting the office of the president of the USA, and it shows how scumbaggy you are. How can you be proud of the country when you are busy despising its highest office, eh? Just how sensible is that? How fast the population of sensible people are fast declining in America, is worrisome. To Idaho scumbags, stop eating too much of potatoes... they are meant to be sold. Perhaps, you are eating the potatoes raw... now that is dangerous for your brain.
@Tunji Timi Tola Ad hominem attack on a message that is supported even in my sphere of programmers and engineers. An office, ANY office that has the capricious ability of mass murder relabeled as war deserves all the vitriol the human race can muster.Do not confuse your government for your country or voluntary society."The great non sequitur committed by defenders of the State, including classical Aristotelian and Thomist philosophers, is to leap from the necessity of society to the necessity of the State." -Murray Rothbard
"It was not President Obama who led us into this middle east quagmire, it was his predecessor, G.W. Bush and his administration."
Â
But it is fair to blame Obama for EXPANDING such efforts.
Â
"Neither did President Obama create nor cause our worldwide economic downturn"not by himself, no.  That would be the biggest international investment bankers.  but Obama is not helping with by socialism.   "Again, the preceding conservative legislators who repealed the Glass-Steagle Act as well as other bank and finance regulations caused it. "talking point.  There are many thousands of banking regulations now.  There were many thousands of regulations back then, before and after glass steagal repealed.  All in all, the number of regulations have been steadily increasing. "Our middle-class, which is this country's bread and butter, has been deeply eroded by the neo-conservative and libertarian push against supporting our country's infrastructure (through equitable tax laws) in order to satisfy their own greed"Utter nonsense.  Communist countries have great infrastructure, as well as many countries in between us and them in terms of policies.  But they have basket case economies.    Europe probably has even better infrastructure than us, yet in many ways, they are doing worse than the USA.  The idea that because roads take a little bit longer to fix nowadays causing economic catastrophe is nonsense.  Even Paul Krugman would not think this.  The  middle class prosperity comes from the private sector.  The private sector literally produces everything from goods, services to innovation. "In addition, their constant reductions of funding for essential social services, including mental health, has contributed to the misery of our country's citizens."  complete non-sequitur.  This only affects a tiny percentage of the population.  Okay, to be fair, many people are dumb or deranged enough to think politicians can or desire to fix things, relying on them like pathetic toddlers.  I suppose if they were completely mentally healthy, there would be almost no religion and the USA government would cease to exist.
The Ralph Smeed Foundation needs to read a bit of recent history and then correct the billboard to actually reflect the truth. It was not President Obama who led us into this middle east quagmire, it was his predecessor, G.W. Bush and his administration. Neither did President Obama create nor cause our worldwide economic downturn. Again, the preceding conservative legislators who repealed the Glass-Steagle Act as well as other bank and finance regulations caused it. Unemployment issues were caused by the Reagan Administration's policies that rewarded industries for moving their manufacturing operations and later service-related jobs overseas.Â
Our middle-class, which is this country's bread and butter, has been deeply eroded by the neo-conservative and libertarian push against supporting our country's infrastructure (through equitable tax laws) in order to satisfy their own greed. In addition, their constant reductions of funding for essential social services, including mental health, has contributed to the misery of our country's citizens.
The Ralph Smeed Foundation needs to get it right or take it down.
Amazing how sick the people are on this thread who think this is ok. Not even all of the victims of a terrible crime in OUR country have been laid to rest and you probably think god believes your repulsive behavior and insensitive comments are justified, don't you? Would it be the same if your 6 year old was murdered and you had to look at the killer's face made into some political maneuver? You're all sick...especially jim hamilton who is probably one of the bored weirdos who spends his time commenting and causing controversy on threads instead of looking for a job. Sick.
The liberal obamites will have a field day arguing against this, the liberal media will (naturally) ignore it......but.......the pictures are of a crazy killer and a sneaky- blame someone else lying SOB. Are side by side. How come BHO calls this guy a killer when he said that the Ft. Hood (brother Islamic) assassin was "just a normal guy having a bad day" ??? Oh yeah...and the punk that got shot by the security guard "could have been his son" ??? Remember, November is when those that voted for BHO to show that they were not bigots can vote for someone else to prove that they are not idiots!
Everyone has the right to there opinion. and in my opinion the billboard is just wrong, Â I find it very offensive because i would rather not see that guys face (Â James Holmes) while driving down the road. the sign is dangerous, it can cause people to become very upset and cause lots of road rage and leave people distracted from the road. and if you like the sign that much go have one made and stick it in your front yard.
Â
I live in Aurora, CO and am absolutely appalled at the insensitive billboard. These people are completely way out of line. I can't tell you how hard it is to be strong when your teenage son loses a friend simply because he went to a movie. I can't tell you how emotional it is when some of his friends are now afraid of the dark because they "were stuck in the movie theater in the dark and couldn't get out."... When your son is talking to someone who was shot in the neck, when you see a mom get carried off a high school football field during a memorial for her son who just graduated. When you're watching national news networks and suddenly see your son's good friends giving interviews and breaking down. When you talk with huge high school linebackers and listen to them get upset because they felt they should've somehow tackled a madman in full body armor and automatic weapons. When you feel guilty for being happy that your son told his friends that he was going to stay home and play with his little brothers because you know his friends' parents are at the hospital; and you think "Thank god it wasn't my son" while knowing full well it could've been. When your phone starts ringing off the hook at 2 in the morning because friends and family from around the nation are calling to see if your child is ok and you have no idea what happened yet. It is so incredibly hard and my son wasn't even there, but his friends were. I don't even know what to say to their parents. How do you console someone when you're happy that your own child wasn't there? It just doesn't feel right.
Â
This billboard is comparing a non-political horrific, evil murderous act to the political policies of the President of the United States. Regardless of political views, the people of Aurora, CO know this massacre had NOTHING to do with politics. And we were grateful when Obama visited us to represent the country's love and support for our healing. Yes, everyone has their right to their own opinion and they can keep their disgusting billboard up. But thank god not everyone is as repulsive as the creators of this travesty of a billboard.
@swooshz But just because you don't know them it's okay for all the civilians women and children being targeted by Obama's Predator Drones huh? Forgive my rudness here but you are so stuck on your own grief you can't see others.
I thought Libertarians had more sense and class. Turns out they share Rush Limbaugh's lizard brain.
This is going entirely too far...It's ignorance like this that caused the horrible killings in Colorado in the first place. Â It's a sad day when this is aloud to happen. Â Opinions are fine, but this is completely disgusting. Â This is taking things too far. Â
I'm concerned it could be taken as a subtle public invitation of violence towards our President--depicting a smug looking gunner next to the President of the United States--and that perhaps the Secret Service should be notified of the possible suggestion. Over-the-top hyperbole can often appeal to the crazy as a signal of encouragement, and I think this unfortunate fact should be considered here. We've already just had one nut from Idaho shoot at the White House; so, in light of that alone, we ought to be careful with our extremists. And as far as giving the 1st Amendment carte blanc to everything, remember that it stops at "yelling fire in a theater..."
@My2bts Na it's just a picture of 2 mass murderers side by side.
Only in America can idiots hide behind such blatant racism & call it a first amendment right! To vilify a man because you don't like him and blame him for war deaths in wars he didn't start & is doing everything in his power to bring it to an end. I agree with greg30127. And you call him unAmerican, If you aren't full blooded American Indian you aren't either
"Does billboard comparing Obama to alleged shooter go too far?"
Â
No not at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't vote for Obama, and I think this billboard is disgusting. The Ralph Smeed Foundation must be run by a bunch of brain dead morons who can't come up with adult arguments for their case, and instead have to resort to something a ten year old child would do. Freedom of opinion is one thing - freedom to slander is another. Far too much junk like this is spread on both sides, using the "free speech" clause as their reasoning. No, their excuse is a lack of maturity and nothing more.Â
We can only conclude that the CIA Is the United States terrorist group they are a civillian organiztion engaged in direct combat this is not even legal.
The CIA says we can't prove that the dead people werent terrorists so we count them as they are.
What is striking about the report, observes Glenn Greenwald at Salon,
the Bureauâs methodology and reporting. Its last news-making report, issued last July, was designed to prove (and unquestionably did prove) that top Obama counter-Terrorism adviser John Brennan lied when he said this about drone strikes in Pakistan: âin the last year, âthere hasnât been a single collateral death because of the exceptional proficiency, precision of the capabilities that weâve been able to develop.â The Bureauâs July, 2011 report concluded that Brennanâs claim was patently false: âa detailed examination by the Bureau of 116 CIA âsecretâ drone strikes in Pakistan since August 2010 has uncovered at least 10 individual attacks in which 45 or more civilians appear to have died.â As I noted at the time â and again when I interviewed Chris Woods of the Bureau â their methodology virtually guarantees significant under-counting of civilian deaths (and, indeed, their July, 2011, count was much lower than other credible reports) because they only count someone as a âcivilianâ when they can absolutely prove beyond any doubt that the person who died by a drone strike was one. The difficulty of reporting and obtaining verifiable information in Waziristan ensures that some civilian deaths will not be susceptible to that high level of documentary proof, and thus will go un-counted by the Bureauâs methodolgy.
a senior U.S. counter-terrorism official, speaking on condition of anonymity. "We might not always have their names, but ... these are people whose actions over time have made it obvious that they are a threat."
Sunday Times in London reports the program has killed dozens of civilians who had gone to help rescue victims or were attending funerals.
Â
Research by the Bureau has found that "since Obama took office three years ago, between 282 and 535 civilians have been credibly reported as killed including more than 60 children. A three month investigation including eye witness reports has found evidence that at least 50 civilians were killed in follow-up strikes when they had gone to help victims. More than 20 civilians have also been attacked in deliberate strikes on funerals and mourners."
Reporting from Washington -- The CIA received secret permission to attack a wider range of targets, including suspected militants whose names are not known, as part of a dramatic expansion of its campaign of drone strikes in Pakistan's border region, according to current and former counter-terrorism officials.
The expanded authority, approved two years ago by the Bush administration and continued by President Obama, permits the agency to rely on what officials describe as "pattern of life" analysis, using evidence collected by surveillance cameras on the unmanned aircraft and from other sources about individuals and locations.
While I agree with the message and dislike BO and everythingf he sta
nds for, I think this is insensitive to the victims families in Aurora to have it made political.
@Di Oh you mean like how Obama is making it political..
WARNING VERY GRAPHIC

if you want a black leader, take a look at my friend ALLEN WEST!
I think the Billboard speaks the truth! I want it to stay, and I LOVE IDAHO POTATOES!! They are the BEST! I swear to it!
Obama is an "Uncle Toms Cabin Leader" who bows to all the other leaders from other countries as if he was "their boy" rather than the leader of the "Greatest Nation" the world has seen in the last few centuries! He deserves respect by Americans, because he gives no respect to Americans. American black men have fought along side of whites to create and defend this Nation and "The Constitution" that Obama uses as toilet paper! The man is interested in his own gain and vanity! He deserves this Billboard! He earned it!
My shock was due to the insensitive nature shown towards the victims and their families both in that theater and our military, and the anticipated gratification you hope to receive at someone else expense. The measure you had to go, to use the massacre of innocent people in a theater for political agenda to make what you thought was a good point. It was disrespectful to use that as you soap box / stepping stone. It is dishonorable to all those victims involved including the innocent these men, women and children in that theater and our honorable men and women in the military who stand at the forefront and willingly protect this country. Is there no honor, is there no compassion and apparently no shamed.Â
1 MORE NOTE: Common sense should tell those of you with the snide comments about Idaho and some of the resident that The Ralph Smeed Foundation does not speak for all people in Idaho.
@G-ma This has nothing to do with the military the CIA is in charge of the drone program that is doing all of the killing a civillian organization directly engaged in combat is unlawfull. Just like we the United States can not declare war on citizens of other countries they are non militia and we are using the CIA as our own terrorist organization.
@G-ma Thanks for your kindness and sanity!
I was disagreeing on what the bill board said..still disagree with all my heart and soul, but I'm not calling for it to be torn down. In fact the longer it stays up, the more people can see the bigotry.
@Mtbeau Why do you claim bigotry? Any time anyone attacks the current president it is bigotry, just because he is half black. This is an attack on the Peace prize that he "won" BEFORE he ever assumed office. Since he has assumed office there has been an escalation in the wars that he said he would stop. Gitmo is still open, which he said he close immediately. What has he done to earn the prize, either before or after he assumed the mantle of the presidency? If GW were up there would everyone be calling foul like this? This billboard should remain up and hopefully the Nobel prize committee will see it, and maybe they will hang their heads in shame for giving the peace prize to this man who has authorized more drone attacks and curtailed our liberties.
Jim if you think I was attacking peoples freedom of speech, you are so wrong. But why were you attacking mine? Thanks for your service.
@Mtbeau If you don't mind elaborating on just what it is, that I said that wasan attack on your free speech?
@JimHamilton  @Mtbeau Sorry I never ever said someones should not say something, you are the one that did that to me.
@Mtbeau By the way Gung ho was intended as a complement as for your dedication and motivation, problem is you were to shallow to receive it. I don't have a problem with you I just would think that someone who has given so much would be in support of freedom even when it doesn't agree with us. Imagine if George Washington never would have spoken out against the Queen.
@Mtbeau Run away hide.
@JimHamilton  @Mtbeau God given rights? Love my Country!! (oh I also worked for the C.I.A. in 1972-73 fighting a war in Loas!) Signing off, not more from me.!!! Have a nice Life! By the way, this MR. will do what he wants to do with his azz and no one has or ever can make me do something with it that I do not want to do. Chou
@Mtbeau No you didn't attack freedom of speech you attacked the individuals for exercizing their right to free speech.
@JimHamilton  @Mtbeau Again, this does not have me attacking freedom of speech! This has me disagreeing. Use the G.I. Bill and go to school.
@Mtbeau LOL saying to check yourself is attacking your free speech? It means examine yourself. You stated "Disrespect for the President and his Office and as the Commander-In-Chief of the Military, regardless of his political affiliation, is a disgrace.
Â
For me this is not about political affiliation this is about I strongly feel that the CIA a civillian agency should not be directly ingaged in combat and the list goes on.
Â
There is a difference between the Office and the one in it. People nbot subject to the UCMJÂ have a right to condemn the one in it. It is part of the freedoms we enjoy. Active duty personel yes it is different for them.
Â
Thank You for your service too but I do not believe exercizing the freedom of speech is disgracefull just because they hold a different view.
@JimHamilton  @Mtbeau And where did I say it? Quote me! and I will never apologize for being Gung Ho and Patriotic. You seem to have more of a problem your self than you have with me.
@JimHamilton  @Mtbeau So please check your self there buddy
