MERIDIAN, Idaho (KBOI) -- At Cole Valley Christian Schools, the learning goes on amid the grieving.

Army Spc. Thomas Murach, 22, of Meridian, graduated from Cole Valley in 2009.

He was among five soldiers killed by a recent IED attack in Afghanistan.

Murach was close friends with the son of teacher Wendy Sorenson.

"He was quiet but funny with some quirks," she said. "He was a really nice gentleman."

Melody Moehlmann taught him in 11th grade.

"He was quiet, but he was funny," Moehlmann recalled. "He was Mr. Jokester. He hung around with a bunch of guys that liked to do practical jokes. Always had this little grin on his face, you just didn't know what it was."

At Cole Valley, they're flying the flag at half staff in honor of Murach. He was the second student from this school to be killed in the war.
PFC Ray Werner died in Iraq in 2007.

And while these young men are mourned, the teachers at Cole Valley are comforted by their faith.

They say they'll see their brave students again.
