Nampa therapist charged with sexual exploitation

Nampa therapist charged with sexual exploitation
NAMPA, Idaho (KBOI) -- Police were called to the 1100 block of South Ada Street to investigate a sex-related crime Saturday.

They arrested 36-year-old Mark Wiseman, a licensed professional counselor, who police say had been providing psychotherapy for the victim in this case.

"He was in a position where he had gained...trust... and sexual acts took place," said Sgt. Donald Peck with the Nampa Police Department

Wiseman is charged with sexual exploitation by a medical care provider.

Under Idaho law, any medical care provider who engages in sexual contact with a patient or client is guilty of sexual exploitation, regardless of consent.

"And the reason or that is so that people who are put in a position of trust don't take advantage of somebody at a time of need," said Sgt. Peck.

Because of the nature of this crime, police are looking to see if there are other victims involved.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Sgt. Peck at the Nampa Police Department at 475-5714.

Wiseman faces one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

He's free on a $300 dollar bond.
