New York firefighter weighs in on Irene damage
QUEENS - Patrick McCullagh is a New York firefighter in Queens. He responded to emergency calls while Hurricane Irene moved up the coast through downtown New York.

"I was called to mostly trees down, sparking wires, wired down in the streets, some flooding, a few car accidents," McCullagh said Sunday night.

Irene eventually downgraded to a tropical storm, but the storm still packed enough of a punch for significant damage.

"The winds weren't as strong as they though they were going to be, but with all the rain we've gotten over the past couple of weeks, they were definitely strong enough to take a lot of trees down."
