Help is on the way for woman caught in tree snag
BOISE - A Boise business is stepping in to help after seeing our Truth Squad investigation.
An elderly woman says she paid a tree-care company to remove two trees, but the work was never done.
Now, the story takes a pleasant turn.
Several people claim Jim's Tree Care promised to do a job. They claim he took their money, but never completed the work.
Mary Bailey-Sigler, 79, says she paid Jim's Tree Care $2,500 to remove her two elm trees.
Those trees are still there and Mary is out a lot of money.
CBS 2 Eyewitness News did some digging and discovered Jim's Tree Care has similar complaints filed against it with the Better Business Bureau. It also had two small claims cases filed against it.
But, Mary's story should have a happy ending.
Another company, called Done Rite Trees, saw CBS 2's investigation and decided it would help Mary and remove her trees for free.
"There are a lot of old people out there that everybody is taking advantage of right now and it makes me mad," said Gary Butcher, owner of Done Rite Tree Company. "So, we decided to do something about it and we are going to go ahead and take the tree out."
Gary says he's been in the tree trimming business for 14 years and he says there's a lot of bad companies out there, so homeowners need to do their homework before paying someone to do the work.
Mary tells CBS 2 Eyewitness News she can't thank Gary and the Done Rite Tree Company enough and this makes her believe there are still good people out there.
Done Rite Tree Company plans to remove Mary's trees on Tuesday, March 17.
We'll check back with Mary next week when Butcher's company takes the trees out.
