BOISE - The executive board of the Roady's Humanitarian Bowl did not take a vote to hold or release Boise State from playing in the game this year. The board instead has turned its focus to making a Boise State vs. Ball State matchup happen.
The board met today in Boise behind closed doors, and after deciding that the WAC has the ultimate power to place a representative into the Roady's Humanitarian Bowl, declined to hold a vote that would have established the board's official opinion on the matter.
"We wanted to do something that really matters, and to us, us voting to hold or release boise state isn't really our decision. So there was no reason for our board to vote. What we did decide on is that we want to pursue a Boise State - Ball State matchup to appear in the Roady's Humanitarian Bowl this year," said bowl director Kevin McDonald.
That matchup would be very attractive across the country, a game featuring the two undefeated non-BCS teams. While Ball State's coach has made comments sayin he doesn't want to come play a bowl game on the opponent's home field, the ability to establish the matchup will fall to the conferences themselves.
"We don't consult with BSU," continued McDonald. "We look at all opportunities to create the best game possible."
The timing of any announcement is going to be tricky. McDonald said that any agreement would likely have to be in place before Friday's MAC championship game between Buffalo and Ball State. If Ball State were to win that game, then the discussion would be finalized.
And any BSU-BSU agreement would also have to include appeasing the ACC, the other half of the traditional H-Bowl matchup.
